Here are three fantastic cycling routes, from easier to harder..
Puerto Pollensa to Alcudia (via Cala Sant Vicenç and Pollensa)
This simple cycling route from Puerto Pollensa allows you to explore a little around the neighbouring areas… besides being very flat, with stunning scenery.
Leave from Puerto Pollensa gas station and follow the Ma-2200 towards Pollensa by the bike path on the right, at 3’8km turn right to follow the road to Cala Sant Vicenç. This road full of curves but with not much incline will take you to the gorgeous, idyllic bay of Cala San Vicenc. We have villas here such as Villa Toni Vicente, which sleeps up to 12 guests. Once you have enjoyed the views and refreshed your feet in the water, head back to the Ma-2200 to get to Pollensa.
Once there, or you can stop to enjoy the atmosphere of the old town of Pollensa and have lunch or you can go to the rooster roundabout, next to the Pollensa Pavilion, where you can take the Ma-2201 to Alcudia, also known as the Alcudia Old Road, or the Cami de Ca’n Bisanyes. Once you finish this beautiful road surrounded by farms and the Albufera wetland, follow the signs for the Ma-13 to Alcúdia. Its a nice way to experience the Old Town if you have not yet visited. We have a fantastic villa that sleeps 12 people right in the heart of Pollensa Old Town, that has its very own internal bike store to put your cycles! Can Xica
Stop in Alcúdia to visit its walled enclosure and the Roman Ruins, on market day the town is buzzing with fresh produce and crafts, or head back to Puerto Pollensa on the Ma-2220 road that runs along the Pollensa Bay, and enjoy sea views and the people doing kite and windsurfing.
This route is quite easy so Son March recommend one of their rental road bicycles, or a trekking bike.
Puerto Pollensa to Santuari de La Victória (Alcúdia)
This beautiful route not only allows you to enjoy sea views at Pollensa Bay but also the Peninsula de la Victoria, located in Alcudia and its beautiful natural surroundings. We have villas to rent in Alcudia, such as Villa Uno, Can Bobis which sleeps 6, Can Simone which sleeps 12. And many more; Villas in Alcudia.
Take the Ma-2220 from Puerto Pollenca to Alcudia. Follow the signs to “Alcúdia center” at the first roundabout you see once you have passed the Es Barcarés beach (recognizable most time of the year for being full of people practicing kitesurfing and windsurfing). We have a fantastic villa just down here that sleeps 12 people Villa Uno.
Go past the Walls of Alcúdia and at the first traffic light go straight on Av. Princep d’Espanya until you reach another one where you must follow “Es Mal Pas / La Victoria” signs. Follow Carrer Xarxa to the urbanization of El Mal Pas, once you get to its marina you must follow the signs to “La Victoria” until you reach the beautiful asphalt road that will take you up to La Ermita de La Victoria.
For those who will find it hard to make the ascent to the Hermitage of La Victória, Son March recommend that you rent an E-Bike with pedalling aid!
Puerto Pollensa to Cap de Formentor
The most desired cycling route in North Mallorca, but not easy in any way. The Port de Pollença - Formentor route is one of the most popular segments of Strava in Spain and a route used by professional cyclists, and triathletes. On the ring road of Puerto Pollensa follow the signs for Formentor: you will arrive at the beginning of the most famous cycling climb in Mallorca in less than 5 minutes! Climb up to the Mirador de la Creueta and stop to enjoy the views of the Cap de Formentor - (we have spotted dolphins up here a couple of times too!) or climb up to the Talaia d’Albercutx and take in the north of Mallorca from this old defensive building. Once you have enjoyed the views, get ready to enjoy the descent to the Formentor beach and follow the road towards the Formentor Lighthouse, located at the most northern point of Mallorca. There you can enjoy perfect views of its cliffs before heading back. We have villas to rent in Puerto Pollensa.
Ocholo Tip - drive the route first if you like to feel prepared, the Formentor route is a simply stunning trip with family and there is a little beach to the other end. The drive over the mountains is almost as exhilarating as cycling and you can enjoy it with the whole family for an afternoon. By driving the route you can pick out places to stop along the way and plan your route in detail. For car hire prices get in touch - we can arrange for cars delivered to your villa or to be collected from Palma Airport.
